About Yuba Raj's Work
Yuba currently works as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Brisbane, Australia. He completed his PhD in Agriculture from the University of New England, Australia, in 2022. Additionally, he holds a master’s degree in Ecology and the Environment from Linkoping University, Sweden, and a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
In his PhD, he examined the underlying drivers of agricultural land abandonment and its reutilisation pathways in the Hill agro-ecological region of Nepal. The ultimate objective of his study was to provide an understanding of how the issue of farmland abandonment is emerging and what impacts it has caused in the hills of Nepal. Through this study, he contributed to evidence-based policies to identify pathways for reutilising the abandoned farmlands in the hills of Nepal.
Before pursuing his PhD, Yuba worked as a researcher in Nepal and contributed to eight different projects based on sustainable agriculture, agri-food systems, land use change, and climate change. He collaborated with multidisciplinary teams of scientists from Asia, Europe, and Australia. He was involved in designing research, devising research tools, gathering qualitative and quantitative information from the fields, documenting the findings, and preparing written outputs such as journal articles, discussion papers, and policy briefs.
Yuba is passionate about engaging in multidisciplinary and applied research related to sustainable agriculture, land use change, food systems, and Food Security/Sovereignty.
