Willem Verhagen

Willem Verhagen is currently working on implementing land management intensity in global land system models and IAMs. The primary focus lies on applying (sustainable ) land management into scenarios of land degradation for the Global Land Outlook (UNCCD).

Previous work has included a meta-analysis on the effect of land management intensification on the trade-off between biodiversity and land-based production.

Willem is finishing up a PhD in environmental sciences and geography on optimal spatial planning for protection and restoring land for ecosystem services", with a special interest into the importance of changing landscape configuration and management for ecosystem services.
