Professor Wenwu Zhao is a geography professor at the Faculty of Geographical Science, Beijing Normal University (BNU). His research focuses on land use and ecological processes, ecosystem services, coupled human–natural systems, and sustainability. He is the Associate Editor of Geography and Sustainability and Chair of the IGU Commission on Geography and Sustainability. He has published over 200 academic papers. His research area are: Coupled Human and Nature System; Land use and eco-hydrology; Landscape pattern and ecosystem services; Ecosystem services and trade-offs; Land degradation and ecological restoration; Sustainability science; Dryland social-ecological systems.
