About Vinícius's Work
Dr. Vinícius Mendes is a political economist working as a PostDoc in the Environmental Governance and Politics chair group, Dept. of Geography, Planning, and Environment, Radboud University, Netherlands. Dr. Mendes' research aims to understand how the environmental crisis (particularly climate change and biodiversity loss) is being addressed in multilevel governance institutions and in different economic sectors (agriculture, information technology), with a focus on Brazil and Latin America. In previous research projects, Mendes has studied climate change mitigation policies in Brazilian (smart) cities, decarbonization strategies in U.S. Big Tech firms, and, more recently, low-carbon digital agriculture in Brazil. At Radboud University, Dr. Mendes works on the Horizon Europe project PLANET4B, where researchers reflect upon transformative biodiversity governance through the lenses of environmental justice and intersectionality. Within PLANET4B, Mendes is leading a case study on the impacts of the telecoupled commodity trade and global value chains (soy and beef) to socio-biodiversity in Brazil and the Netherlands.
