About Valeria's Work
Valeria is a Colombian social scientist whose research sits at the intersection of environmental governance, conservation social science, political ecology, and decolonial and social justice theories.
She is currently conducting her PhD research at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, ICTA-UAB, in Barcelona, Spain, as part of the Conservation Data Justice project. Her research explores the justice implications of the data that informs and shapes area-based conservation policy in Colombia, with a particular focus on the recognition and reporting of Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) in the country.
She has worked in the fields of environment and development in Latin America, with experience across academia, social impact start-ups, international development agencies, and NGOs. She holds an MSc in Global Development, Environment and Climate Change, and an MA in Transmedia Communication.
