About Uchenna's Work

Uchenna Rowland Onyeizu, Ph.D., is a Registered Professional Agrologist (PAg), Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Environmental Professional-in-Training (EPt), and Fellow of the Nigerian Environmental Society (FNES) with over 28 years of professional experience spanning agriculture, agro-ecology, forestry, environmental management, rural development, and community transformation.

He holds a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology, an M.A. in Applied Community Change, an M.Sc. in Forestry and Environmental Management, and a B.Agric.Tech in Agricultural Economics. He has combined academic, professional, community-development, and agricultural practice throughout his career, including experience as a university lecturer in Environmental Management and Toxicology.

He currently serves as the State Project Coordinator of the IFAD-funded Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises – Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) Project in Abia State, Nigeria, where he coordinates interventions aimed at improving livelihoods and creating sustainable agribusiness opportunities for youth, women, persons with disabilities, smallholder farmers, and rural communities.

His professional interests include sustainable agriculture, food systems transformation, climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, environmental sustainability, rural livelihoods, agribusiness development, and nature-based solutions. He is particularly passionate about connecting agricultural productivity with environmental stewardship and inclusive economic development.

As both a practising farmer and development professional, Uchenna brings a practical, field-based perspective to food systems and rural development. His experience working directly with farming communities informs his advocacy for stronger local food systems, farmer empowerment, value-chain development, and greater African ownership of agricultural development.

He is also involved in community-oriented initiatives, including the development of the Martha Iyaya Community Clinic and plans for the Martha Iyaya College of Agriculture, Environment and Technology (MICAET), reflecting his broader commitment to education, healthcare, agriculture, environmental sustainability, and community transformation.

Uchenna is a member of professional bodies including the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES), UK, and the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA), Canada. His work increasingly focuses on building practical bridges between agriculture, environment, livelihoods, climate resilience, and sustainable development in Africa and beyond.
