About Tzu-Hsin Karen's Work

I am a quantitative human geographer working with earth observation data to understand urban environmental changes. Working with Big Data Centre for Environmental Health, a Novo project developing innovative analytics and integrated data sets, I utilize a synergy of GIS, machine learning, and Earth Observation/Remote Sensing technology. In my Ph.D. project, I seek to reveal the impacts of urbanization on people’s mental health trajectories across the life course. The studies involved use Landsat time-series and deep learning approaches to investigate urban densification in Denmark and mental health outcomes during the rural-urban migration process at an individual level. In the ongoing and future research, I am keen to disentangle how urbanization affects human well-being and how it differs between European countries and the Global South.
