About Thomas's Work

Thomas Hammond is Senior Officer Land in the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Land and Water Division. He was formerly the Secretary to the Scientific Advisory Panel of the Global Environment Facility, and prior to that was Senior Biodiversity Program Manager with the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, an international organization created by Canada, Mexico and the United States under the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation. Earlier in his career, Tom spent 12 years in senior positions with IUCN (The World Conservation Union) and WWF International, and at different times in his career has led a variety of conservation and development projects in both Africa and Latin America. A native of Toronto, Canada, Tom obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Ottawa and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo – both in Ontario, Canada.
