About Thilde Bech's Work

My research focuses on land use, natural resource management, and climate change mitigation and adaptation in the Global South, with a particular focus on shifting cultivation and the communities that depend on it. I investigate the drivers and consequences of land-use change and management, and their effects on soils, carbon storage, ecosystems, and livelihoods.

My work combines agroecological and socio-ecological perspectives, with a particular focus on soil organic carbon, nutrient dynamics and soil health. I also examine the wider political and economic processes shaping land use, including questions of equity, Indigenous and local rights, and the distribution of environmental and socio-economic costs and benefits.

My regional focus is Southeast Asia and the Pacific with additional research experience in East and West Africa.
