About Surjit Singh's Work

Dr. Surjit Singh Saini is an Urban Planner and GIS Expert with over 18 years of experience in applying advanced geospatial technologies to urban development, environmental planning, and digital governance. Currently with Jalandhar Smart City Limited, Punjab (India), he specializes in GIS-enabled urban planning, smart city systems, and data-driven municipal infrastructure management.

His work spans Integrated Command & Control Centres (ICCC), municipal utility networks, solid waste management, disaster risk reduction (DRR), and environmental and social impact assessment. He has led and supported key initiatives including GIS-based monitoring platforms, property tax reforms, urban flood mitigation strategies, and asset-management systems that strengthen governance and service delivery.

Dr. Saini has published 11 research papers in reputed journals with over 224 citations and is an accredited Functional Area Expert (FAE) with NABET, Quality Council of India, for land-use impact assessment under EIA.

He has also served as visiting faculty and resource person at institutions such as SPA Delhi, CRRI, HIPA, HPU Shimla, and Kurukshetra University. His international experience includes contributing to development projects in Afghanistan and Mongolia.
