Stefanie Herrmann

Stefanie is a research scientist specializing in drylands and Earth Observation/Remote Sensing at the University of Arizona and currently also a consultant on the same topics at the World Bank in Washington DC. Stefanie has enjoyed working at the intersection of academia and applied development work. She pursues problem-driven research on land degradation and land cover dynamics, which has taken her all the way from a Regional (subnational)-scale Earth Observation/Remote Sensing perspective to working with transhumant pastoralists in the field and back to Earth Observation/Remote Sensing, integrating Regional (subnational) and local scales, quantitative and qualitative data. Having studied at the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research in the Negev and at the University of Arizona in the Sonoran Desert, Stefanie is at home in the drylands. Her work and travels have also taken her to the West African Sahel, the Sahara, the Karakum, the Takla-Makan, the Namib and the Atacama deserts.
