About Silvia Sofia's Work

I hold a PhD in Ecology and Sustainable Development, and a Master in Sciences in Natural Resources and Rural Development. I have lived and worked in México and Scotland, where I recently completed a postdoc at the University of St Andrews. I am currently on a short research stay at the Université du Sherbrooke. During my career, I have combined my local understanding of the multifaceted communities in the diverse tropical regions of Central America with critical thinking on development, sustainability and governance. I have worked for more than 10 years with indigenous people, conducting interdisciplinary research focused on analyzing evidence of climate change, addressing its effects on , Smallholders farmers, and their traditional knowledge as a basis for adaptation. I have also explored the role of public policies in , Smallholder’s adaptation and resilience to climate change, whilst developing advocacy and practical recommendations for adaptation at local and systems scales.
