About Shu-Yuan's Work
Shu-Yuan Pan is an Associate Professor at Department of Bioenvironmental Systems Engineering, College of Bioresources and Agriculture, National Taiwan University (NTU), the Chief Executive Officer of the Agricultural Net Zero Technology and Management Innovation Research Center at NTU, and the Executive Director of the GLP Taipei Nodal Office. He obtained his B.S. from the Department of Geography at NTU in 2009, and his M.S. and Ph.D. from the Graduate Institute of Environmental Engineering at NTU in 2011 and 2016, respectively. He served as a visiting researcher at Argonne National Laboratory, and conducted postdoctoral research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In 2019, Dr. Pan joined NTU as a tenure-track Assistant Professor, and then was promoted as an Associate Professor in 2023. Pan leads the “Green Technology Lab” at NTU, dedicating to the development of sustainable chemistry and circular economy technologies in accordance with international movements and local demands, such as circular economy and net-zero transformation in agriculture. He has authored over 120 articles (Google citation >14,000 with an h-index of 60) in SCI-indexed journals, including Nature Sustainability, Environmental Science & Technology, Water Research, Journal of Hazardous Materials, ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, and Bioresource Technology. Several of his papers have been acknowledged as highly cited papers in the field of engineering by ESI. He holds 10 patents and is the author of the book CO₂ Mineralization and Utilization. He is a Professional Engineer (PE) in environmental engineering licensed in Taiwan.
He was awarded a “40 Under 40 Recognition Program” by AAEES in 2026, “2025 Rising Stars” by ACS Engineering Au, “2023 Class of Influential Researchers – Asia and Pacific” by I&EC Research (ACS), and a “2022 ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering Lectureship” Award (USA). Pan has ranked on the list of “World’s Top 2% Scientists” since 2020. He also received several awards from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Taiwan ROC, including the “Einstein Young Scholars Fellowship” in 2019-2023, and the “Ta-You Wu Memorial Award” in 2024. In 2013, he was named Green Talent by BMBF (Germany) for his graduate work. Pan has trained and mentored more than 40 students and professional staff members since 2019. Pan has several Advisee Awards, including “the Third Place of the Net Zero Tech Contest” by the TECO Technology Foundation in 2024, “Best Poster Award” by Chinese Institute of Environmental Engineering (Taiwan) in 2022, “Living Lab Project Awards” by CTCI Education Foundation (Taiwan) in 2020 and 2021, and “Student Paper Award” by Taiwan Agricultural Engineers Society (Taiwan) in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
