About Shaoliang's Work

Prof. Dr. Shaoliang Zhang is now the Dean of School of Environment Science and Spatial Informatics at China University of Mining and Technology and the director of Research Center of Mine Ecological Rehabilitation, the Ministry of Education. He was honored as the New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, China in 2007, and the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award winner of Jiangsu Province. He is a member of the International Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), the Global Land Project (GLP), the International Society of Mine Surveying (ISM). He is an advisor of the International Low Carbon Research Center (ILCRC), vice chairman of the Academic Committee of the China Land Society, a member of Land Resources Committee of China Agricultural Engineering Society, and a fellow member of China Energy Society. He was graduated from China University of Mining and Technology in 1989 majored in mine surveying. In 2001, he was a senior visiting scholar in the National Key Laboratory of Geographic Information System of Nanjing Normal University, a visiting professor at RMIT University in Australia in 2004, a visiting scholar at the University of Toronto in Canada in 2007-2008, a senior research scholar at the Delft University of Technology in Holland in 2015, and a senior research scholar at the Western Australia University in 2018.
His main research focuses are on ecological monitoring and evaluation to mining areas, ecosystem resilience, ecological restoration, etc. He was the PI of 20 projects, such as "863" and the National Science and Technology Support project, the National Natural Science Fund. He has published 190 academic papers, 5 books, and obtained 6 scientific and technological awards in national-/provincial- and ministerial level.
