About Shakil's Work
Prof. Romshoo has a multidisciplinary academic and research background having obtained his Ph.D in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan and Master’s Degree in Earth Observation/Remote Sensing and GIS from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok Thailand. Currently, Prof. Romshoo is Professor of Earth Sciences, University of Kashmir, India. He has worked, in the past, as a Scientist at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Tokyo and Fellow at the Energy and Research Institute (TERI), New Delhi, India. Professor Romshoo has published more than 250 publications in peer reviewed national and international journals and book chapters. Besides academics, administration and consultancy, Prof. Romshoo is engaged in collaborative and sponsored research on Hydrology, glaciology and climate change impact studies in the Himalayan region. Professor Romshoo is a member of more than a score of policy and decision-making committees and working groups related to environment, water, climate change and disaster management at the national and international level. He has won several national and international awards for his academic achievements and notable among them are the Kasumigaura International Prize from Government of japan, the National Geoscience Award, J C Bose Fellow and several more awards and honors. He is an elected fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian Society of Remote Sensing and Indian society of Geomatics
