About Sarah's Work

Sarah Torhan recently earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Penn State University, focusing on water resources and geography. Her Ph.D. work looked at water security from an interdisciplinary lens and applied mixed-methods to assess water insecurity outcomes, and her M.S. work focused on climate change adaptation across the food-energy-water nexus, and her Ph.D. work seeks to quantify and contextualize the impacts of socio-environmental change on water security in data-scarce regions. Previously, Sarah received her B.S. in chemical engineering, worked across various industries, and spent several years collaborating on grassroots environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture initiatives in Paraguay.
