About Sandra Jazmin's Work

Sandra Barragán is a Research Associate at the Global Development Institute, University of Manchester. She is currently investigating how and under what socioeconomic and political conditions land rights can reduce inequalities and generate environmental benefits in places affected by decarbonisation processes. The project combines large-scale geospatial and socioeconomic analyses with in-depth qualitative case studies in Mexico, Brazil and Ghana -where she leads the qualitive part in Mexico.
Sandra holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Sheffield, where her research examined energy transitions in Mexico through an energy justice lens. Her broader interests include multi-scalar methodologies, green extractivism, decolonial perspectives, and the political economy of low-carbon transitions.
