About Sakib's Work

An Environmental and Water Resources Engineer by training, Sakib Mahmud has been serving as the Assistant Chief (Environment and Ecology) at the National River Conservation Commission (NRCC), Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of Bangladesh since 2019. Prior to that, he was engaged in various conservation projects focusing on riverine ecosystems and their biodiversity across Bangladesh with international organizations namely the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and International Water Association (IWA) from 2014 to 2019. In addition, he also holds a Masters degree in Environmental Economics. His overarching career goal is to contribute towards the conservation and sustainable management of riverine and wetland ecosystems in Bangladesh, a land of Rivers that sustains approx. 140 million people for livelihood and transportation.
