About Saheed Adekunle's Work
Saheed Adekunle Raji is a computational geographer (Earth Observation/Remote Sensing, GIS and Spatial Statistics) and lecturer at the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun Nigeria. His research focuses on the spatiotemporal footprints of land change science, spatial data science, dynamics of tropical ecosystem services, modeling water-land-climate nexus, and spatial dimensions of geo-hazard. He holds a BSc degree in Geography (First Class), MSc (Earth Observation/Remote Sensing) and PhD from the University of Lagos.
He has been an award-winning researcher in his field of science with series of travel grants and fellowships in Nigeria, USA and Singapore. Adekunle is a Research Fellow of the Earth System Governance Project – a global land management think-thank network, headquartered in Utrecht Netherlands, a member of the Future Earth, and a Research Fellow of the IFRA (Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique), Nigeria. He is also a team member of the Research Team of the WHONDRS (Worldwide Hydrobiogeochemical Observation Network for Dynamic River Systems) of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory of the USA.
He has received trainings on earth-observation, climate change, land change science and monitoring coastal and estuarine water quality from NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Agency) and USGS (United States Geological Survey) and National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) of the United States. He has participated in a number of global conferences on climate change and earth system Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling) workshops such as the Aspen Global Climate Institute workshop on Linking Human and Earth System Models for Global Change Analysis. He is a co-chair of the Inter-University Study Group on Environmental Management, Modeling and Tropical Geomorphometry between the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun and the University of Lagos.
He is a member of several local and international research organisations including the American Geophysical Union (AGU), African Association of the Earth Observation/Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE), Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG), Nigerian Environment Society (NES) among others. His research is widely published in local and international highly-ranked journals with associated journal reviewer duties for organisations such as the European Journal of Geography. Recently, he was appointed an Expert Reviewer for the Synthesis Report (SYR) of the IPCC AR6.
