About Rovshan's Work
Rovshan Karimov is a PhD in Geography. Since 2004, he occupies a position of senior researcher at Hasan Aliyev Institute of Geography under the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan (previously at Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences). Since 2016, he works as a part-time lecturer at "Geography and Environment" Department of Khazar University. In the past, Rovshan Karimov lectured in other universities as well, including Baku State University, Baku Engineering University, Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University, and Azerbaijan University.
The main fields of interests of Rovshan Karimov are population studies, regional geography, climate impact, climate adaptation, environmental migration, ecotourism, and community-based sustainable development.
Rovshan Karimov has been involved in a number of international projects on flood migration, climate change, sustainable development and ecosystem services, including that of UN Development Program, Horizon-2020 of the European Commission, SCOPES (Scientific co-operation between Eastern Europe and Switzerland), German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), French Development Agency (AFD), Caucasus Environmental Network and other organisations, where he worked as a focal point, national consultant and expert. Rovshan Karimov has been involved in academic activities at some European universities within Erasmus+ programme.
Rovshan Karimov has a broad working experience within Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme, where from 2015 to 2024 years he implemented a mission of national contact point in the fields of climate action, environment, resource efficiency and mobility. Currently he is a coordinator from Azerbaijan in the Horizon project where he explores climate-induced and flood migrations of population. He is an author of more than 110 published scientific papers.
