About Ritah's Work
Ritah is a Researcher/Graduate Fellow in the Urban Action Lab, Makerere University. She has a BSc in Meteorology and a Masters in Geo-Information Science and Technology. Her main interests are in understanding the nexus of climate change risks and urban critical systems, urban transformations, climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, climate and human health risks, urban heat risks, GIS and remote sensing technologies. She is passionate about using interdisciplinary tools and methodologies like co-development, co-production, co-implementation and citizen science to create solutions within urban and rural community environments. She has worked on numerous projects including remotely managing a project in Baltimore, USA focused on using citizen science to develop community flood mitigation plans for preparedness, response and recovery for community resilience. Her most recent work with the Heat Adaptation Benefits for Vulnerable groups In Africa (HABVIA) project looks at understanding the impact of community housing characteristics on human thermal comfort and assessing the efficacy of passive heat adaptation interventions in South Africa and Ghana.
