About Rakibul's Work
My research focuses on understanding the interplay between Peri-Urban & Urban Systems and global sustainability through land systems science and modeling perspective. I have a distinct interest in understanding the interaction between urban expansion and infrastructure development. This includes analyzing the role of road network development and accessibility in urban spatial configurations and interactions. I have developed a scale-invariant, spatially explicit, hierarchical road growth model capable of forecasting road development based on road hierarchy and patterns at any scale. I have also developed an integrated & coevolving urban land change model that captures the interaction between urban growth and road development. I use spatial, statistical, and econometric modeling techniques and other geospatial analysis tools in my research to examine the impacts of infrastructure development and urban growth on different aspects of global sustainability, biodiversity and conservation.
