About Pradeep Kumar's Work
I am a student of Environmental Science subject and interdisciplinary research professional with over one decade of experience at the intersection of agroecology, agricultural research, natural resource management, and the science–policy–practice interface. My work focuses on sustainable and regenerative farming, climate resilience, agrobiodiversity, and Indigenous and Local Knowledge (ILK), with experience in rice-based agroecosystems across the Global South. My work combines farmer surveys, participatory experiments, community engagement, social outreach activities and documentation of ecological knowledge. While my field research is rooted primarily in Uttar Pradesh, I have broader experience across diverse landscapes in Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, complemented by expert contributions to policy and science–practice dialogues. I am currently a Post-doctoral Scientist at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. Previously, I worked with IRRI–South Asia Regional Centre, WRI India, Grow Indigo, and NASI Varanasi Chapter in research, program management, carbon-focused roles, and extension activities for marginalized tribal communities. At the global level, I contributed as an IPBES Nexus Assessment (biodiversity, food, water, climate and health interlinkages) Fellow to the Assessment approved in December 2024 in Windhoek, Namibia, and as a Contributing Author to the IPBES Business and Biodiversity Assessment, approved in February 2026 in Manchester, UK. I have also been associated with IUCN-Commission on Ecosystem Management (CEM) since 2017 and the Global Land Program (GLP) since 2018, contributing to their work and initiatives. I am interested in collaborations that connect field evidence, local knowledge, and ecological science to advance climate-resilient food systems, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable rural livelihoods.
