About Paulo's Work

I am a social-environmental researcher broadly interested in examining people-environment interactions, past and present, to understand how these interactions shape and transform the world. More specifically, I look at different factors mediating people's decision-making (society values, social and cultural institutions, economic and market incentives, public policies, and governance arrangements) on land use and land cover changes, and their implications for forest loss and regrowth dynamics, natural resources management, and people's livelihoods.
