About Patricia's Work

I am a geographer with a degree in Geography and Regional (subnational) Planning from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at the University Nova of Lisbon (2001), and a Ph.D. in spatial planning from the University Nova of Lisbon and Paris IV-Sorbonne (2007). In 2016, I became an assistant professor at the University of Porto in the department of Geography, and later, in 2018, at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT) of the University of Lisbon. I teach in several courses of IGOT, including the GIS Master's, the Urbanism and Spatial Planning Master's, the undergraduate course in Spatial Planning and Management, which I also coordinate, and the Ph.D. program in Sustainability: Resources, Food, and Society. Besides, I am a researcher at the Center of Geographical Studies at IGOT within the Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling) and Territorial Planning (MOPT) research group, and at the Laboratory Terra where I co-coordinate the thematic line 5 - Socioecological Systems, Planning, and Policies. Recently, I have been developing the Care4Food project funded by the La Caixa Foundation. My research interests are focuses in urban agriculture, food systems, participatory GIS, metropolitan regions, land use/cover changes, spatial planning, urban growth, geographic information systems, spatial analysis and Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling).
