About Pankaj's Work
Hi I am Dr. Pankaj kumar currently a Postdoctoral Scientist at John Innes Centre in Norwich, United Kingdom, where my research focuses on the development of gene-edited cultivars for enhanced disease resistance, climate resilience, and high yield in crops. With a strong commitment to applying cutting-edge biotechnology for real-world agricultural challenges, I am working on bridges the gap between scientific innovation and rural farming systems. As my core contribution to program idea deveoped by me to BIHAN – Biotechnology Integrated Holistic Agricultural Network, I plays a key role in connecting advanced research with grassroots agricultural practices. BIHAN is dedicated to scaling up laboratory innovations into real farm solutions in rural villages, making science accessible and impactful where it is needed most. This initiative promotes an integrative agricultural system that takes into account the entire ecosystem from soil health and climate conditions to sustainable production practices. I particularly passionate about working with rural youth, empowering them through knowledge sharing, field demonstrations, and participatory research. Their holistic approach to agriculture addresses core challenges such as climate variability, soil degradation, pest and disease pressures, and socio-economic constraints. Through BIHAN, we promote solutions developed by scientists, ensuring these innovations are practically viable and locally adapted.
With a rare combination of high-level scientific expertise and community engagement, i exemplifies a new generation of agricultural scientists those who not only develop solutions in the lab but also ensure they make a measurable difference in farmers' lives. Their mission is rooted in the belief that sustainable, resilient agriculture requires collaboration, knowledge exchange, and a systems-thinking approach from soil to climate to crop productions.
