About Nishita's Work

Nishita Narwal is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of Western Australia, specializing in environmental science, with a research focus on microplastics in soil–plant systems, their behaviour, uptake, and translocation in agricultural crops, and sustainable remediation strategies.

She completed her PhD in Environmental Science at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, where her research focused on the characterization, assessment, and mitigation of emerging micropollutants, including microplastics, in aquatic environments. Her research has contributed to advancing understanding of plastic pollution through innovative approaches, extensive scientific publications, and international collaborations.

Her current research explores the fate and impact of microplastics in agricultural soils, their interaction with plants, and the development of nature-based solutions such as biochar and microbial approaches for reducing plastic pollution in terrestrial ecosystems.

Recognized for her contributions to environmental research, Nishita has received prestigious honours, including the BRICS Young Scientist Award and other international research awards. She continues to actively engage in global scientific collaborations aimed at addressing emerging environmental challenges and promoting sustainable solutions.

Her groundbreaking research involves using photocatalysis for the removal of microplastics from aquatic environments, a novel approach that promises to advance the field significantly.
