About Neus's Work
I am currently a researcher at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) in Spain, where I work on the analysis of land-use change dynamics, their associated impacts, and mitigation potential within the agriculture, forestry, and other land-use (AFOLU) sector using global, forward-looking approaches. I combine quantitative methods—including life cycle assessment (LCA), multiregional input–output (MRIO) analysis, and economic modelling—to inform decision-making and support multilateral governance frameworks aimed at fostering low-carbon and climate-resilient agri-food systems. My current research focuses mainly on developing databases for tracking agri-food supply chains and the environmental and economic impacts of global food consumption, including deforestation, biodiversity loss and greenhouse gas emissions, taking into account international trade and land expansion dynamics. Before joining BC3, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bonn in Germany (Institute of Food and Resource Economics/Research Centre for Development) and a research scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria. I have contributed to several projects focusing on the indirect land use change impacts from bio-based production and bioeconomy policies that increase competition between food, feed, fuel and fibre uses.
