About Narcisa's Work

I use geospatial modeling and Earth Observation/Remote Sensing to understand the interconnections between human population dynamics, land use and land cover changes, and climatic variability at global and Regional (subnational) scales. I focus on complex socio-ecologiacal systems dynamics, especially centered on environmental variability and the vulnerability of populations to natural and anthropogenically-induced changes. Much of my work is concentrated in the drylands and savannas of eastern and southern Africa, where I collaborate with diverse stakeholders to integrate geo-informatics with socio-economic pressures and water resource availability with significance for coupled human-natural systems and natural resource policy.
