About Monica's Work
As a woman from Mexico, my academic journey has been an adventure. I studied Geography at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) before pursuing a master's in Environmental Science and Management at the University of York, UK. Growing up amidst Mexico's diverse landscapes fueled my passion for understanding our planet's complexities.
Now, armed with this background, I'm dedicated to leveraging technology, particularly Earth Observation/Remote Sensing tools, to address environmental challenges. I focus on the energy transition, particularly solar energy, and its impact on the Global South. I work to empower communities and mitigate climate change impacts through renewable energy initiatives.
Beyond academia, I'm committed to promoting equity and inclusivity in environmental work, amplifying marginalized voices in decision-making processes. From tracking deforestation to advocating for renewable energy solutions, I strive for practical, inclusive approaches benefiting both people and the planet. Bridging research, policy, and grassroots action, I aim for a more resilient and harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world.
