About Matthias's Work
Matthias Bürgi is head of the research unit Land Change Science at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) and a professor for Landscape Research at the University of Bern. In his research, he focuses on how the dynamic interactions between societies and their environment are expressed in the development of cultural landscapes and habitats. He studied environmental sciences at ETH Zurich. After his PhD, he was a postdoctoral
researcher at Harvard University, Cambridge,MA, and at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI.
