About Marisa's Work

Marisa Clemente Rodrigues is an expert in conservation enterprises and sustainable livelihoods. With a solid background in nature-based solutions and trade development, she has significantly impacted environmental conservation and community development in Southern Africa. Marisa holds a Ph.D. in Animal Science and Agriculture from São Paulo State University, Jaboticabal, Brazil, and two Master's Degrees in Animal Science from the University of Évora, Portugal, and the Federal Technological University of Paraná, Brazil. Currently, Marisa is an Expert in Trade and Development with FNDS/MozBio in Mozambique, leading projects on honey quality regulation and residue monitoring. She also serves as the Community Development Director for the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project, promoting sustainable livelihoods in Angola and Botswana. Her past roles include Senior Manager of Sustainable Livelihoods for the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project and consultant positions with UNCTAD in Angola, focusing on national honey production and trade facilitation. She has also been a Research Assistant Professor at São Paulo State University and a consultant for Fauna and Flora International in São Tomé and Príncipe. Marisa is fluent in Portuguese, proficient in English, and an independent user of Spanish. Her personal interests include biking, diving, hiking, and bird watching. She is actively seeking postdoctoral opportunities in conservation enterprises and sustainable livelihoods to continue her work in creating resilient and sustainable ecosystems.
