Mario Giampietro

Mario Giampietro recently retired from the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (ICTA-UAB) and the Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA). All the same, he continues to work on the integrated assessment of sustainability issues using concepts developed in complex systems theory and biosemiotics. Currently, he is also active within The European Centre for Governance in Complexity (Norway), where his research focuses on science for governance, and teaches at the Universidad Científica del Sur (UCSUR, Peru). He has (co)authored over 150 publications, including six books, in research themes such as multi-criteria analysis of sustainability; multi-scale integrated assessment of scenarios and technological changes; alternative energy technologies; urban metabolism; bio-complexity; science for governance.
