About Luigi's Work
Luigi is an interdisciplinary researcher working on socio-hydrology and various land and water use and exploring potential sustainable pathways of agriculture in the future. His intention is to use a holistic approach to face the environmental challenges addressed by the Planetary Boundaries framework, investigating the effect of alternative agricultural systems on the ecosystem from a hydrological perspective.
Piemontese holds a Master of Science in Environmental and Energy Engineering from the University of Genoa. He spent nine months in Spain (Universitat de Barcelona and Universidad Politecnica de Madrid) working as a junior researcher on hydrological Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling) in the framework of of the European project DRIHM (Distributed Research Infrastructure for Hydro-Meteorology). After his studies Piemontese worked for one year at the United Nation Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in the UNITAR's Operational Satellite Application Programme (UNOSAT) contributing to the development of a global early warning system for floods.
Piemontese's interests range from alternative agricultural systems (natural agriculture, permaculture etc.), to ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction and general human-water interactions.
