About Lisa-Marie's Work

Lisa-Marie Hemerijckx is a post-doctoral researcher at the KU Leuven department of Earth and Environmental sciences. She obtained a MSc in Geography (GIS and spatial Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling)) from KU Leuven and Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2018 where she assessed suburbanisation processes in Paramaribo, Suriname. In 2023, she completed her PhD on the geographies of the urban food system of Kampala, Uganda. She is currently studying the role of rapid urbanisation in transforming food systems in low- and middle-income cities. This research is supervised by Prof. Dr. Anton Van Rompaey. Lisa-Marie’s main research interests are in the geographies of urbanisation, social segregation and food accessibility.
