About Lindsay's Work
Lindsay Stringer is Professor of Environment and Development at the University of York, UK, where she works in the Environment and Geography Department. She is also Director of the York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI) until January 2027. Her research focuses on understanding human-environment relationships particularly in the world's drylands. Her background is in geography, but she works with researchers from all over the world and with non-academics across multiple disciplines, with a view to increasing the societal benefits from her work. She has published more than 200 journal papers and has been an author for various global environmental panels, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental science-policy Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). She was awarded an MBE in 2025 for services to environmental development. She is particularly interested in land, biodiversity, climate change and development interlinkages and how synergy can be improved within policy and governance.
