About Leonard's Work

My key skills are:(a) Agronomy:  Expertise inParticipatoryActionResearch,IntegratedSoilFertility Management, agronomic surveys; (b) SystemsSimulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling):ExpertiseinCroppingandFarmingSystemsAnalysis/Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling)inEastandSouthern Africa, and (c) Data handling: Expertise in agronomic and farm survey dataanalysis, scientific writing. I have a PhD in Production Ecology and Resource Conservationfocussing on systems analysis, agronomy and soil science fromWageningen University,The Netherlands. Earlier qualifications (BSc and MPhil) were also on soil science and application in crop production systems. Extensive experience spanning more than a decade in participatory research in , Smallholder farming systems of east and southern Africa (ESA), with a deep understanding of the complex barriers to improved crop productivity. I have published extensively in the field of agronomy and systems analysis focussing on targeting sustainable intensification options to the biophysical and socio-economic conditions of , Smallholder farmers. I am interested in learning and managing science that develops and uses tools that combine social, economic and bio-physical aspects of farmers to improve productivity and reduce hunger for , Smallholder farmers in Africa and beyond.
