About Laura's Work

I am an associate professor and graduate program Director in the department of Geography at Rutgers University. Currently, 2017-2018 Fulbright-Universidad Nacional de Colombia Distinguished Chair in Biodiversity and Sustainable Development. I am interested in studying how socio-ecological systems affect patterns and processes of land-use land-cover change. Specific research interests include understanding tropical forest resilience after disturbances, monitoring and modeling tropical deforestation and re-growth, using biophysical Earth Observation/Remote Sensing to map forest dynamics and socio-ecological vulnerability and resilience in rural settings. I have worked for 16 years in the Yucatan Peninsula, and recently worked in Ecuadorian Amazon.
