About Kattia's Work

Kattia Diaz-Ydones is a Peruvian PhD candidate at the Wyss Academy for Nature, University of Bern. Her research focuses on analyzing public policies and sustainable mining practices in Madre de Dios, Peru. She is particularly interested in the role of local community participation in shaping inclusive and equitable policies for artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM).

Kattia brings a multidisciplinary approach to her work, integrating geography, policy analysis, and sustainability studies. Her fieldwork in Madre de Dios examines knowledge systems, plural values, and local governance.

Kattia has represented her research in international forums, including the 5th Open Science Meeting in Oaxaca, Mexico, and actively contributes to discussions on environmental governance and sustainable development. She is fluent in Spanish, English, and Italian and is currently learning German.
