About Kathleen's Work
I am a geographer and strive to connect disciplines to improve our understanding of the complexity of interactions between the natural environment and human activities. Particularly, I seek to increase our understanding of the interlinkages between climate change, land use and human migration. My research spans across local and global scales, employing both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Before joining IAMO as a senior researcher in 2022, I led the research group MigSoKo on environmental migration at the Environmental Research Center (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany. I hold a PhD from Wageningen University (the Netherlands) and a M.Sc. degree from the Technical University of Dresden (Germany). I am an editorial board member of the journals Regional (subnational) Environmental Change and Sustainability Science and was lead author of the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land (2019).
