About Karina's Work
Dr. Benessaiah is a human–environment geographer and sustainability researcher whose work examines how people adapt to rapid, multifaceted social‑ecological crises (polycrisis) and how these shifts reshape livelihoods, landscapes, and pathways toward more equitable futures. Drawing on global land‑change science, political ecology, ecosystem services/NCPs, resilience, and sustainability science, Dr. Benessaiah studies transformations in terrestrial and coastal/marine food systems, with a focus on changing livelihoods, land/sea uses, and the social and ecological consequences of these transitions. She is also committed to creative and interdisciplinary approaches to research communication, including collaborations across science and the arts.
