About Jovanka's Work
Jovanka holds a PhD from the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ICTA-UAB), a master’s degree from the Erasmus Mundus Joint European Master in Environmental Studies (JEMES), and a degree in Ecology from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Belgrade. Since 2010, her research has focused on REDD+ governance in Mexico. She has also contributed to the Environmental Justice Atlas (EJAtlas) by documenting environmental conflicts in the former Yugoslavia. At CIGA, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship (2017–2019) and subsequently served as a CONACYT Young Researcher (2019–2022), working on a forest degradation project. She currently holds the position of Associate Researcher C in the areas of Rural Environments and Environmental History, Power, and Territory at CIGA. She is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNII I) and has published extensively in indexed academic journals. Jovanka teaches in the Bachelor’s Program in Environmental Sciences at ENES Morelia and in the Master’s Program at CIGA, where she has supervised several undergraduate and graduate theses. She is also a member of the CTC-REDD+ Jalisco and the Scientific Subcommittee of the Monarch Butterfly Reserve.
