About José M.C.'s Work

I am Full Professor at the Department of Natural Resources, Environment, and Land, of the School of Agriculture (ISA), University of Lisbon, where I teach fire ecology and management, and environmental Earth Observation/Remote Sensing. I lead the Forest Ecology (ForEco) research group at the Forest Research Centre (https://www.isa.ulisboa.pt/en/cef/about). My academic background includes an undergraduate degree in forestry from ISA, and an M.L.A. in Landscape Planning and Ph.D. in Renewable Natural Resources Studies, both from the University of Arizona. My research focuses on pyrogeography, including Earth Observation/Remote Sensing of fire, fire risk mapping, and anthropogenic vegetation burning. I am a member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, Earth and Space Science Branch.
