About Joana's Work

Joana Eichenberger holds a degree in geography from the University of Bern and is a doctorate candidate at the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE, University of Bern). Her PhD is part of Horizon 2020 project OPTAIN. The project assesses OPTimal strategies to retAINand re-use water and nutrients in small agricultural catchments across different soil-climatic regions in Europe. Based on the Swiss case study, Joana assesses natural/ small water retention measures in the Petite Glâne watershed. For this purpose, she uses the Soil and Water Assessment Tool SWAT+, a watershed-scale model developed to quantify the impact of land management practices on water quantity and quality.

In parallel with her PhD, she works at the World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies (WOCAT) Secretariat.
