About Jinwei's Work
Jinwei Dong is Professor at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resource Research (IGSNRR), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing, China. His research focuses on land cover and land use change (LCLUC) and environmental Earth Observation/Remote Sensing, especially the application of advanced cloud-based geospatial processing technology. He has developed new algorithms to map rubber plantations and improve paddy rice mapping by using phenology-based approaches. Dr. Dong has also investigated the uncertainties of Earth Observation/Remote Sensing data and Earth Observation/Remote Sensing-based models while addressing ecological scientific questions. His current research interest centers on the monitoring of two typical land use change processes in monsoon Asia: paddy rice expansion in high latitude regions and the conversion of natural forests to plantations in tropical monsoon Asia. He is investigating changes in these landscapes and their Regional (subnational) climatic and ecological effects using multi-source Earth Observation/Remote Sensing, in-situ observations, and modeling strategies.
