About Jézumèvo Ephrem's Work

Jézumèvo Ephrem AKPOLI is a Beninese ecologist born on July 31, 1996, specializing in natural resources management and biodiversity conservation. He is currently a PhD candidate in Ecology and Natural Resources Management at the University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin), focusing on forest ecology, plant biology, ecosystem services, and wildlife conservation. Jézumèvo obtained a Master’s degree in Forest Resources Management from the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences at the University of Abomey-Calavi in 2022. His master’s thesis examined the management of state-owned plantations and the conservation of natural forest fragments in Benin, with a focus on the Djigbé Classified Forest. He also earned a certificate in Protected Area Management in Africa from IUCN-PAPACO in 2019. Earlier, in 2019, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, with an ethnobotany thesis on mangrove ecosystems in Benin. With extensive experience in applied research, Jézumèvo has held several research assistant roles at renowned laboratories such as the Laboratory of Applied Ecology and the Laboratory of Biomathematics and Forest Estimations at the University of Abomey-Calavi. He has contributed to projects involving tree natural regeneration, forest stand structure, endangered tree species planting campaigns, and assessing ecosystem services provided by mangrove ecosystems and agroforestry systems. His active participation in reforestation campaigns and participatory forest management with local communities demonstrates his commitment to sustainability and biodiversity protection. Jézumèvo has presented his research at international scientific conferences, including the 2024 20th Edition of the International Scientific Days in Lomé and the 2023 2nd Multidisciplinary Doctoral Symposium at the University of Abomey-Calavi. He has also expanded his skills through training in academic writing, data analysis with R, and best practices for scientific publication, offered by institutions like RUFORUM and the African Forest Forum. Jézumèvo is an active member of several scientific organizations, including the African Forest Forum, the British Ecological Society, and Botanic Gardens Conservation International. He contributes to advancing ecological research in Africa. Fluent in French and English, Jézumèvo is proficient in various software tools such as Microsoft Office, R, Minitab, and QGIS, which are essential for his research work.
