About Irene's Work
Irene Blanco-Gutiérrez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in Spain and researcher at the Research Centre for the Management of Agricultural and Environmental Risks (CEIGRAM). She has a PhD in Agricultural Engineering (UPM, Spain), MSc in Agrifood Economics (UM1, France), and an MSc in Agrifood Policies (CIHEAM Montpellier, France). Her research focuses on the study of sustainability and circular bioeconomy in water and agriculture. She has coordinated competitive research projects and collaborated with international organizations (FAO, ECLAC) on water planning and Food Security/Sovereignty. She is Associate Editor of the journals Irrigation Science and Spanish Journal of Agricultural Research and expert evaluator of the European Union Framework Program for Research and Innovation, Austria Science Foundation, Polish National Science Centre, and Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
