About Igor's Work

Igor Sîrodoev has earned his BSc degree in Geography from the Al.I.Cuza University of Iași, while the degrees of MSc in Urban and Rural Systems Simulation Modelling (ABM/Predictive/Economic modelling) and PhD in Geography, he received from the University of Bucharest. Dr Sîrodoev completed his studies by obtaining a Habilitation in Geography from the University of Bucharest in 2016. After 2010 he passed all the steps of a researcher’s career, from postdoc to senior researcher, at the University of Bucharest. Between 2014 and 2023 Igor Sîrodoev occupied a position of Associate Professor at Ovidius University of Constanța (Romania), holding a professorship at the same university starting February 2023. With an academic background in geography, Igor has rich experience in interdisciplinary research. Studying spatial and temporal patterns in environment and society is his recurrent research theme, while his present interests are related to Earth Observation/Remote Sensing, Regional (subnational) environmental change, including land use/cover change, and spatial planning. Although his study area is located in Central and Eastern Europe, Dr Sîrodoev has enjoyed international collaborations, being involved in projects and activities financed by world-leading institutions, such as NASA, UNDP, UNFPA, IHDP, NATO SfP, US CRDF, EASME/EMFF, Erasmus+ or invited as a visiting young research fellow at the Department of Geography of Pennsylvania State University (2005). In 2021-2022 Igor is a Fulbright Visiting Researcher at the Center for Global Change & Earth Observations at Michigan State University. In 2021 he has been appointed as a member of the ESPON Scientific Advisory Panel of External Experts.
