About IFFAT's Work

Imagine a world where no one goes to sleep hungry. However, the hard fact is that every day around the world, one in nine people (nearly 805 million) go hungry. Scientists are making progress towards eliminating hunger, boosting food production, and improving diets and livelihoods. Through spatial technology such as unmanned aerial vehicles, a hunger-free world could one day be a reality. This is the focus of Dr Iffat Ara’s research.

Dr Ara is a research fellow at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), University of Tasmania. She is currently exploring how unmanned aerial vehicles can be applied to precision agriculture and natural resource management to support sustainable food production in Australia and developing world contexts.

Dr Ara is passionate about science advocacy, research translation for policy and practice, and community engagement. She frequently presents her research to community groups and growers and strongly believes that knowledge should be accessible. She works to support growers to follow improved practices, sustainably manage agricultural production systems.
