Dr. Himanshu Bargali is a Research Associate in the TEEB–UNEP Agri-Food True Value Accounting Project. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Gurukula Kangri (Deemed to be University), Haridwar, with research conducted at the G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment. His doctoral work focused on “Mapping and Impact of Seasonal Forest Fires on Vegetation Types, Soil Dynamics, and Tree Mortality in the Forest Ecosystem of the Uttarakhand Himalaya.”. Prior to joining the UNEP–TEEB project, he worked as a Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal, on the Lantana Management Project. His research integrates field ecology, Earth Observation/Remote Sensing, and environmental modeling to understand forest ecosystem dynamics, invasive species management, and fire ecology under changing climatic conditions. Dr. Bargali’s current work involves sustainability assessments, life cycle analysis, and livelihood-oriented ecological restoration, particularly the utilization of invasive species such as Lantana camara for value-added products and rural enterprise development. His broader research interests include forest and landscape resilience, socio-ecological systems, and the science–policy interface for Sustainable Land Management.
